Brief team reports form the previous missions to Carpenter.
2023 November
Team

A small team headed from the UK for the first trip to work in the new Leyaata Hospital operating theatres. 4 Theatres - newly commissioned with state of the art theatre lighting, anaesthetic machines and operating tables - air conditioning and a fully functional CSSD.
The main purpose was to deliver Hernia surgery but to provide teaching and training for the small theatre staff that are established in the hospital .

The Uk departed for a 1 week mission to Leyaata Hospital with the brief to deliver teaching and training and to support the initial setup in the hospital based theatre setting.
The trip was a great success - accompanied by the Ghana health team again from Canada, and under the guidance of Dt Jennifer Wilson.
Dr Anne Smith led a an extremely successful programme of Helping Babies breathe course, training the senior midwives to teach the course.
Dr Jo Inchley worked with the imaging team and started the breast ultrasound programme.
Dr Karen Leyden, Jodi Baker and Nichola Patterson spent their time with a fledgling theatre team to set up and start to prepare for the first few cases in the sparkling theatre complex in the new hospital.
2022
Leyaata Hospital Commissioning Team

This week, delegates from the Uk and Canadian teams were invited to attend the Commissioning of the new Church of Carpenter and the Commissioning of the Leyaata Hospital.
This was a hugely symbolic event , attended by the dignatiaries, officials, Guest of honour - Nana Tibalakala (Paramount Chief David Mensah). The sponsors of the hospital, Cindy Lambier, and Jacques Lapointe, Chair of the GRID board an Dr Jennifer Wilson gave speeches before the very symbolic cutting of the ribbon.
At this ceremony it was announced that our teams are giving the gift of a Training Centre.
This centre for health education and research will be a key piece of our ongoing involvement at Leyaata Hospital. It will allow us to support the educational needs of the staff and bring virtual and in-person training to professionals from all over Ghana.
This remains our key fundraising objective as we look forward.

2019 turned out to be a very poignant mission. HIC and the Ghana Health Team travelled to Carpenter for the last time to deliver healthcare to Carpenter and the surrounding villages.
The hernia mission delivered over 250 hernia repairs with a surgical team including Mr Dan Higman, Mr Simon Atkinson and Mr Magdi Hanafy.
In celebration of the prolonged commitment to promoting Healthcare to the region over such a sustained period of time, the 2 visiting teams from UK and Canada, were invited to attend a Durbah, in the presence of the Chiefs and Queens of the region.
